The long-promised refurbishment works are finally underway at the Lios Oir estate in Fermoy.

The works follow complaints of dampness from residents of the local authority estate on the Pike Road and a long campaign for action led by local councillors Noel McCarthy and Tadhg O'Donovan.

Fermoy firm SolasTech were awarded the contract by the town council to carry out the insulation works in walls and cavities. Electric extractor fans are also being installed in bathrooms, windows and doors are being serviced and multi-fuel stoves are being supplied and fitted.

Resident of the estate, Rose Daly said she is very happy with the work. "It took seven years to get it done but I'm happy that it's started. It's thanks to them," she said of the two local councillors. PJ Delaney also thanked Cllrs McCarthy and O'Donovan saying "if it wasn't for them, it would never have been done. We're very grateful to them."
