The committee set up to organise the recent school reunion/Gathering event in Rathcormac declared themselves delighted with how the whole event went at a recent meeting.

They've been delighted with the very positive feedback they've received, with people reporting their enjoyment of the various different events organised. It was felt that each aspect of the weekend festival was very well supported and equally successful. The church was full to capacity on the Friday night for the concert and it was felt that each performer was superb.

With 200 people in attendance, it was agreed the history tour given by Tom Barry was a resounding success and that the historical re-enactment that formed part of it, directed by Valerie O'Leary, greatly added to the experience.

There was huge interest in Frank Morgan's 'Reeling in the Years' photographic exhibition with his large store of old snapshots going down very well with the large attendance who viewed it over the weekend. It was also felt that the exhibition of work by local artists added to the overall festival and went down very well with visitors.

260 people sat down for dinner at Corrin Event Centre on the Saturday night of the festival with a great night enjoyed by all who thought the meal superb and the venue a fine one.

The special reunion Mass on Sunday afternoon was much appreciated by the full attendance and it was considered very fitting that many former villagers, who travelled to be home for the festival weekend, were involved in the Mass. People travelled from as far away as South Africa, the UK and Scotland and from throughout Ireland to be there that weekend.

The Family Fun Day which followed Mass on the Sunday afternoon went very well. Again there was plenty of fun and entertainment for the large attendance and even the weather co-operated to make it a most enjoyable community affair.

All that's left to do, the committee agreed, was to say a big 'thank you' to all who contributed to making the whole thing the great success it undoubtedly was. So  much so that it's now planned to compile and make available a video CD showing snippets of the various events over the weekend, as a keepsake and also for those who were unable to be there. More details on this will follow.
