Residents in an unfinished section of the Shanowen housing estate in Rathcormac plan to bring up their list of unresolved issues with the Fermoy Electoral Area Committee of Cork County Council at their meeting on Tuesday next in a bid to get something done.

The residents have concerns regarding the visual impact of the unfinished part of the estate, unfinished roads and footpaths, the failure to deliver a promised green area, poor lighting and safety issues.

Jackie Hayes, a member of the residents' association says: "We have been living in this environment now since 2007. The area is unsafe and is quite depressing to look at every day. All we want is a green area that is safe and not a health risk."

They want the outstanding work done and the estate to be taken in charge by the county council. Of the 178 houses in the private estate, 40 to 50 are in the unfinished section.
