Protesters who have forced work to be halted at the grounds of the former Galty Castle near Kilbehenny say Tipperary County Council have caused ‘absolute devastation’.

A boundary wall which surrounds the grounds of the former castle had collapsed and was in need of urgent repair.

In order to access the wall and to secure the area, council workers carried out extensive excavation works to the landscape.

However, the local heritage group say a different course of action should have been taken … a spokesperson for the heritage group said that they still don’t know who authorised the works.
