Property Tax Paper Returns ‘deadline should be extended’

South Tipp Independent TD Mattie McGrath has called on the Office of the Revenue Commissioners to extend the deadline for paper returns of the Local Property Tax where families have not received the LPT Return Form.

Revenue have stopped sending out forms and the only option now is to pay online. The Revenue Office has also stated that for those who do not have internet access they can phone them and they will go through the form with them over the phone.

“That is all well and good in theory, but in practice it is a whole different story whereby you could be waiting at least 20 minutes on the phone before you get to speak to a representative. This is very difficult for those who only have a credit phone and who cannot afford to wait 20 minutess over the phone.”

Deputy mcGrath went on to say that many householders have already spent long periods of time on the phone and are then being told that Revenue are ‘experiencing technical difficulties, please ring again’.

“I would hope that these people would be treated with some fairness and have the deadline extended for those who have not received their LPT form,” concluded Deputy McGrath.
