The 66th annual Araglin Carnival got off to a very encouraging start last weekend, with members of Araglin Pony Club hosting a gymkhana on the opening Friday night. The Ruth Gorey and Paul Kennedy Memorial Cups were contested with local youth, 11-year-old Patrick Leddy and his mount, ‘Tiger Roll’, winning both trophies – a fantastic achievement for this talented young rider.

The carnival 45 drive also took place last Friday evening with siblings, Eileen Ahern and Billy O’Donoghue, winning first prize of €110 each.

On Saturday evening, a combined Araglin-Kilworth selection took on their counterparts from Fermoy in a keenly contested match for the Jimmy Myles O’Donovan Memorial Cup. After an entertaining hour of hurling, it was the local combination who took home the spoils. Brendan Noonan was the match referee.
