We are glad to be able to report some positive news for the towns of Fermoy and Mitchelstown this week. The long awaited leisure centre in Mitchelstown will see the contractors move in to The Canon’s Field next week when the site preparation will commence. This old chestnut has finally come good and while it had its negative moments down through the years, it is now time to say well done to the chairman and his committee for bringing it to this point. The town and its people can at last look forward positively to this long-awaited facility.

Good news too that the former EMF building on Dublin Hill is being taken over by Mitchelstown Forum where The Mitchelstown Enterprise Centre is to be located. The development got a timely boost when it received  €279,750 from the Cork County Council Economic Development Fund this week. And while they have met their commitment to the council, they would welcome any further contributions that may be out there as they endeavour to secure an anchor tenant that would see the project become operational.

And what about Fermoy’s success at seeing the fledgeling Poetry Festival making such strides? The organisers prepare to welcome poets from all around the globe to this year’s event which starts on August 1st. This has exploded into becoming a major event. Well done to all three initiatives!
