Visitors to last Thursday's St Colman's College, Fermoy open day were left in doubt about the level of activity that goes on in the school.
Such an elaborate academic and extra curricular programme brings with it demands and if students are expected to work hard the same applies to teaching staff.
With respect to a few senior personnel, St Colman's has a predominantly youthful workforce who are characterized by an abundance of energy and enthusiasm - qualities that will take you a long way in any career.
Under the direction of principal, Veronica O'Donoghue, this team of teachers are tasked with educating and enlightening hundreds of talented young men. It's a responsibility they take very seriously and this was clearly evident at the open day.
During the course of the afternoon members of the public were given a detailed breakdown of academic, sporting and social pursuits.
Everyone was made feel very welcome and all queries were dealt with in a courteous and efficient manner. Side by side with an established academic curriculum, St. Colman's College, Fermoy also facilitates foreign travel, creative writing, equestrian sports, variety shows and outdoor hiking - pupils also find time to stage their an annual film festival in addition to compiling and publishing 'An Colmánach' (school year book), in addition they're given an opportunity to learn Chinese.
In recent weeks a group of students have been actively involved in a Christmas shoebox appeal - an initiative that brings some festive cheer to less fortunate children across the world.
The large numbers who toured the college last week were left with a very favourable impression of pupils and their diligent teachers - all of whom work together in a spirit of partnership to fully realise every student's potential.
