Poet John Sexton will give a reading during the upcoming event in The Wagon Tavern in Fermoy to celebrate Culture Night.

Following on from the success of the recent international poetry festival in Fermoy, Gene Barry has been invited by Cork County Council to arrange an event to celebrate Culture Night on Friday night, September 20th. He's planning to stream live, via the internet, simultaneous broadcasts of poetry readings from poets in Ireland, Holland, England and the US. It will be broadcast from The Wagon Tavern in Fermoy.  A similar four-hour endeavour during the poetry festival proved very successful. That broadcast, also from The Wagon Tavern, resulted in a commitment from all of the Dallas poets who featured, to travel to Fermoy for next year's festival.

INCLUSION

The upcoming live broadcast will continue the festival's ethos of inclusion, enabling anybody, anywhere in the world, to view and enjoy the readings. The evening will get underway with a 30-minute reading by Kerry poet Eileen Sheehan, followed by readings from various Dutch poets including Tsead Bruinja and Saskia Stehouwer. Derry-born poet Fred Johnston will read next, followed by readings from English poets Kim Moore, Rachael Davies and Ben Johnston among others.

A short open mic session will then take place, followed by a reading by John W. Sexton. Poet Michael H. Clay of Mad Swirl will be among a number of American poets whose readings will bring the event to a finish.

The evening is free and all are welcome.

The next morning, Saturday September 21st, Fred Johnston will hold a poetry workshop at the beautiful Blackwater Castle in Castletownroche.
