Plenty takers for WEEE recycling collection in Fermoy

The public seized on the opportunity to offload electrical appliances at the recent WEE Ireland recycling operation held in Fermoy, with no let up in the demand for such a service.

Fermoy doesn't have a recycling centre, also known as a 'bring site'. This goes some way to explaining the huge response to the WEEE Ireland recycling collection service which took place in the old mart yard on Saturday last.
Goods (anything with a plug or battery) started arriving from 10am and there was no let up until 4pm when the operation was shut down.

A joint venture between WEEE Ireland and Cork County Council, the sorting, storing and transport of all electrical items is a fine tuned operation, overseen by a professional team of operatives. The WEEE Ireland supervisor on duty in Fermoy was Brian Gibson, who said the day had run very smoothly.

WELL PROMOTED

All items collected are taken to a central depot for dismantling and recycling. The vast majority of electrical items are recyclable with only the gas contained in fridges proving problematic. Televisions were the most numerous items brought along last Saturday, as we all now tend to go down the flat screen and surround sound route.

The WEEE Ireland collection operates to exacting standards and a strict 'no scavenging' policy is enforced. The initiative was well promoted with the public seizing on the opportunity to offload redundant, unused and decommissioned electrical appliances of all shapes and sizes.
