Cork County Council is asking locals to clean road signs themselves in very rural areas. “We encourage it. We don’t have the resources to do it all ourselves,” area engineer Brendan O’Gorman told the recent meeting of the Fermoy area committee of Cork County Council.

He was responding to a motion tabled by Councillor Frank O’Flynn, calling on the council to clean and renovate fallen or damaged regulation, warning and indication road signs in the interest of road safety. The engineer said that this is done routinely where resources permit. He undertook to investigate any particular location Cllr. O’Flynn had in mind.

HELPING HAND

He then made the request for community involvement in very rural areas to clean lichen, moss and dirt from signs and, if they saw any turned the wrong way around, to adjust them.
