Passing The Buck

Dear Sir,

Considering the size of the avalanche of the number of both individuals and organisations who jumped the gun in disclaiming responsibility for the poor quality of the Dublin water supply, I was surprised in not finding Bertie Ahern or Michael O’Leary amongst them. This fiasco did not materialise overnight. It has developed from negligence over weeks or months because certain people were not doing their duty.

The amount of sediment accumulating on the floor of the tanks eventually blocked the filters. Of course one has to pay attention to the statement of excuse made by one of the top officials from the water board who said that the wrong kind of water was pouring in to the treatment plant, to discover the kind of idiots we are dealing with. Even the least educated of our citizens would know that the problem is due to human negligence and the culprit or culprits have to be taken care of by someone who has the courage to acknowledge and act, rather than pass the buck.

At the present time the call-in radio programmes are monopolised by people who are complaining about the burden of extra taxation, especially when it is used to pay for unnecessary bureaucracy. Instead of the Government listening to them and doing something about it, they are giving preference to legalising same sex marriages when they could do more good for the people by creating a solid and legal embargo to prevent asses entering the Dáil and becoming ministers.

The cutting down of the size of bureaucracy has to commence immediately by reducing the number of TD’s to 100 and the number of senators to 30. The level of pay for ministers and TD’s and senators should be on par with that of Albania or Romania and the trumpets will blare out our entry in to the real world.

Thank you,

Richard Prendergast,

Mondaniel,

Rathcormac.
