Parents of children with disabilities feel ‘forgotten’

A funding package for organisations like St Joseph’s Foundation and COPE needs to happen, as parents of children with disabilities feel like forgotten people.

This is according to Labour Cork East TD Seán Sherlock, who spoke in the Dáil on Tuesday evening in support on a Sinn Féin motion on childcare.

“I don’t think we can stand here tonight, and talk about childcare without talking about all children,” said Deputy Sherlock. “I think it’s frightening the fact that there is still no certainty about children who use services such as in my own area – St Joseph’s Foundation, Enable Ireland, COPE Foundation – the perception is that there is no communication directly with parents in respect of their children, and whether or not they would have access to services come September.
