Parents of children attending Kildorrery National School have reacted angrily this week on discovering that remedial work on the local school will not be completed in time for the new school year.
The Department of Education has confirmed that the school will not reopen in September as work on repairing the building has not been completed.
The Avondhu has learned that the building has been severely water damaged and now requires extensive work.
Sources have said the latest delay centres around a restart of the tendering process to carry out the necessary work on the building.
