The Palace Players have this time around, chosen Tom Murphy's highly acclaimed comedy 'Conversations On A Homecoming' and will open their pre-festival run this weekend at The Village Arts Centre, Kilworth (all tickets €8 opening night).
'Conversations on a Homecoming' is set in a West of Ireland pub in the early 1970s which was named 'The White House' following JFKs visit to Ireland in 1963. Michael (Brian Hogan) returns to his home town from America, where he emigrated in search of work and a better life. There to meet him are his friends from a decade ago - Tom (Brendan Dunlea), Junie (Danny Buckley), Liam (Sean Ahern) and Tom's fiancee of all of ten years Peggy (Michelle Hurley). Missus (Mary Flavin) runs the now rather weary pub while her husband JJ (who does not appear) is 'on the batter' along with their still school-going daughter Anne (Fiona Clifford).
As the drink takes hold, inner feelings are exposed and insults thrown, particularly by Tom, and Michael realises some home truths before the night's end.
The play opens this Friday night for three nights (20th-22nd) and will run again on Friday and Saturday (27th/28th) at 8.15pm nightly.
Booking at The Avondhu office, Fermoy (025-32227); Cotter's Bar, Kilworth (025-27109 after 5pm); Hyland's Bookshop, Mitchelstown (025-24528) or call 087-6492514.
