
Fire services remain on site monitoring the site of a fire at a commercial recycling facility at Knockgriffin, Midleton just after midnight on Friday, 18 April.
The public are being advised to keep away from the area, with some smoke still in the area – although the heavy rain presently will reduce its impact.
Several fire fighting appliances attended the scene of the fire, which was brought under control in the early hours – some local diversions which were in place earlier, have now been lifted.

Cork County Council issued a statement this morning following the fire in Midleton
‘Cork County Fire Service was tasked to a fire at a commercial recycling facility at Knockgriffin, Midleton just after midnight today (Friday 18 April 2025).
‘Six appliances from Midleton and Cobh Fire Brigades attended the incident, four units from Midleton and two from Cobh. The fire was brought under control at approximately 04am. There are no reported injuries,' the statement read.
'As of 09am Cork County Fire Service remains on site, monitoring the scene. Weather conditions will reduce the impacts of smoke in the vicinity with rainfall likely to continue throughout the day.
'The public is advised to stay away from the area and if there is any smoke in the vicinity of your home you should keep windows and doors closed as a precaution'.
The Council are engaging with the HSE and An Garda Síochana.
'Cork County Council is continuing to engage with An Garda Síochana, and the HSE and both the Council and the HSE are satisfied that adequate mitigation measures are in place to manage any risks on site.
Part of the Northern Relief Road was closed overnight but has now reopened.'
