Having already raised almost €1 million through grants, donations and interest-free loans, Mitchelstown Forum still need to raise a further €12,363 to make Mitchelstown Enterprise Centre a reality in the town, the aim being to help new businesses and create employment locally.

A building has now been chosen and Forum personnel have been working hard to secure. They are now hoping to complete the purchase, sign the contract and start renovations. The building, at Cahir Hill, is the first on the left as you take the Dublin exit from The Fir Grove roundabout. It is in a great location for businesses who do not need to locate on the main street and have a visual presence.

"The Enterprise Centre in Mitchelstown will belong to the community and will help people to start up businesses and create employment in the town. The timing could not be better as Mitchelstown is on an economic rise and we are in the perfect place for people to start businesses here," business development manager Catherine Monaghan explained.

She added that they are appealing to the public to help them to raise the remaining sum needed, by giving donations, or providing interest-free loans of any amount. Community enterprise centres are already open in places like Croom, Bandon, Charleville, Fermoy and Mallow and through the Forum, people in the town can help to creat job opportunities.

The Forum is amde up of representatives from 45 community groups in and around Mitchelstown and it was set up to ensure that groups in the town could access funding, information and services.

The Forum hopes to raise the remaining €12,363 by the end of October and anyone who wants more information can contact chairperson Liam O’Doherty on 087-2667138, Bunty Flynn on 087-6364845, Tom Whelton on 086-8306373 or the Forum mobile 087-6347652, email mitchelstowncommunityforum@gmail.com or write to Sarsefield Casey House, Baldwin St., Mitchelstown, Co Cork.
