Gaelscoil Uí Ríordáin, Ballincollig will play host to The Orpheus Choir, who will be giving a spring concert, together with their special guests, the Cantabile Vocal Ensemble and Colin Nicholls, in the school’s new state-of-the-art hall on this Saturday, April 13 at 8pm.
The choir’s musical director, Hilary Reynolds – who has had prior contact with the Gaelscoil through her work as a Voice Specialist and Vocal Coach, giving a workshop to the teachers on ‘Speech Training and Voice Management in the Classroom’ – was most impressed with the new school and particularly with the suitability of the hall as a concert venue.
In September 2005, Hilary formed the nucleus of what has now become The Orpheus Choir, a fully-fledged, mixed-voiced, community choir with 36 members hailing from North and East Cork to West Waterford. Since its inaugural concert in 2007, it has toured throughout Cork and Waterford with a series of very successful concerts, amongst others, with the famous Cork-born soprano, Mary Hegarty, and in St Finnbarre’s Cathedral in Cork City. Together with the Cantabile Vocal Ensemble, which is a female-voiced choir based in Douglas under the direction of Mary O’Brien, it will be bringing a wide variety of great choral songs which should appeal to all age-groups and all music-lover
Tickets (€10) for the April 13 event are available in advance from the reception at Gaelscoil Uí Ríordáin or at the door on the night. For further enquiries contact Hilary on 087-7924105, email: hilaryhreynolds@gmail.com.
