Carrignavar woman Deirdre O'Donovan got off to a strong start in her first week as one of the six leaders on the RTE television programme, Operation Transformation, managing to shed 6.5 pounds in weight. Deirdre, who is five feet tall, weighed in live on the programme last week at 17 stone, 4 and a half pounds.

After featuring on the second of the twice-weekly shows in series seven last Wednesday night, Deirdre and the five other leaders were on the Saturday Night Show with Brendan O’Connor on RTE television at the weekend. That was followed by their first challenge in the Phoenix Park on Sunday.

The media spotlight continued on Monday morning when the six leaders spoke on the John Murray Show on RTE radio.

Deirdre appeared on Operation Transformation again on Tuesday night where her first week's weight loss was revealed. Viewers saw her become emotional as she talked about her reaction to seeing herself on television the week before. Her husband John and son Sean reassured and encouraged her.

Deirdre said she'd found the first week very hard and her struggle to prepare and cook fish and eat it with vegetables was shown. She was told by the panel that she would have to change her eating habits and cut out chips, not only for her own sake but as an example to her children. She vowed to redouble her efforts this week on that front and also to increase her exercise. We're all behind you Deirdre!
