Ardpatrick cyclist Oisín O’Callaghan is celebrating after finishing 12th of 72 riders in the recent UCI Cycling World Championships in Scotland in the Mountain Bike Downhill competition.
The 20-year-old rider was the top Irish finisher following the results, with a time of 4:33:334.
Speaking with The Avondhu, his father Chris said that the rider is not only performing well on an international stage, but at his young age is punching well above his weight.
“He’s been tipping away, winning quite a lot of titles at Junior level. In downhill racing, when you turn 18 you go straight into Senior level. If you look at the top 15, they’re all 24, 25, 26. His mental game is his strength; he knows the rainbow jersey is there for the taking. He seems to thrive when the pressure is on”.
