The Concerned Citizens of Mitchelstown Group has lodged an appeal against the change of use of Weavers Bar Mitchelstown to an Amusement Arcade.
Last month, Cork County Council granted permission to Perks Promotions, a well-known family business which runs similar outlets in Youghal and Midleton.
The decision followed a year of speculation and plans for the former bar, owned by local businessman Denis McGrath.
In a brief appeal filed on 15 May, a group calling themselves the ‘Concerned Citizens of Mitchelstown’, outlined their objections to the new plans.
The appeal, compiled and spearheaded by local man Martin Lane, says that Cork County Council should not have made the decision to grant planning permission in respect of the premises at 45 Lower Cork Street, Mitchelstown "as part III of the Gaming and Lotteries Act of 1956 does not apply to Mitchelstown".
The site was last used as a bar in 2017. At the time of going to print, property owner Denis McGrath was unavailable for comment.
