The NRA has been asked to reverse its decision to suspend funding for phase two and three of a planned scheme of Fermoy town improvement works which they'd promised after the M8 bypass was opened.

There was an agreement between the county council and the NRA, was that the latter would fund the works which the council would carry out. It would include road resurfacing and new footpaths, upon opening of the motorway. The work was to be done in three phases. Phase 1was completed. It stopped at Abbey Street.

Following a recent meeting of the Fermoy Electoral Area Committee of the county council, Senior Executive Engineer with the roads section, Brendan O'Gorman, wrote to the programme and regulatory unit of the NRA outlining the utter dissatisfaction of members with the decision made to suspend funding for phases 2 and 3 and calling for a "high level" review of the decision.

The engineer said they understood that funding has dried up but theirs was a long standing agreement which should be honoured.
