Audiences at Saint George’s Arts and Heritage Centre are assured a night of melodies from the musicals as a number of choirs join together to perform a fundraising concert on Sunday, November 12th at 8pm.
November Notes sees Bel Canto Choir and St Colman’s Choir Cloyne, along with Douglas Harmonia Singers, present a night of Irish favourites and Broadway musical hits in aid of Marymount Hospital and Hospice Cork, Wildlife Rescue Cork and Saint George’s Arts and Heritage Centre, Mitchelstown.
Under the direction of Audrey Robinson and Anne Ralph, accompanied by pianist Jonathan Murray and cellist Maria O’Connor, these choirs will entrance audiences with a mixture of Irish choir favourites and well known songs, such as Danny Boy, which will undoubtedly raise the rafters as well as funds when the audience gets involved.
As well as a night of musical enjoyment and worthwhile fundraising, audiences will also benefit from recent improvements to Saint George’s, such as the raised stage, for great audience viewing and the newly installed heating system which will make this historic venue even more comfortable for the audience and the performers.
Bel Canto Choir is a four part choir that was formed in 2009. They have sung with greats such as Cara O’Sullivan, Majella Cullagh, Phil Coulter and Ryan Morgan, to name a few. They are excited to sing at this concert, for their first time, some of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s most popular hits from his musicals.
Their conductor is Audrey Robinson, a music teacher at Presentation Secondary School, Ballyphehane, who, like the choir members, loves singing and supporting worthy causes such as Marymount University Hospital and Hospice. This well-known and popular choir will perform songs from the musicals such as Any Dream will Do, Memory, Don’t Cry For Me Argentina and a medley from Les Miserables, these are always favourites with audiences.
Douglas Harmonia Singers is a dynamic award winning upper voice choir. They sing a varied repertoire including jazz, folk, classical and popular music. Their conductor is Anne Ralph, a lecturer at the MTU Cork School of Music with an active choral background as conductor, singer and accompanist.
They are singing Lullaby of Birdland, Ain’t Misbehavin’, All The Pretty Little Horses, Parting Glass, and in the second half City Of Stars, Both Sides Now, Shallow and Fallin’.
The final addition to this magical musical medley will be St Colman’s Choir. This long established choir is based in Cloyne and sing every Saturday night at Mass in St Colman’s Church. They have sung for many years and specialise in church music. Audrey has been their teacher since September 2022 and is looking forward to them joining Bel Canto singing Shenandoah and Danny Boy.
Tickets are €20 and are available on Eventbrite, The Favourite, 2Shoes and Roche’s Spar or call 087-4696913 or 087-8113611. All funds raised will go towards Marymount Hospice, Wildlife Rescue Cork and Saint George’s Arts and Heritage Centre.
