Once a social highlight for so many clubs and organisations, the traditional dinner dance isn't the force it once was - with many associations giving up completely on the concept. However, bucking the trend in a big way are members of North Cork IFA whose annual social is consistently well supported.

This was once again the case in The Firgrove Hotel, Mitchelstown last Saturday night when officers, members and supporters came together for what turned out to be a really great night.

2013 POSITIVE

Staff at the hotel served a first class meal which was thoroughly enjoyed by all. There followed a number of speeches by special guests, Chris Hayes, IFA Munster vice president and the CEO of Dairygold, Jim Woulfe. In what was an upbeat assessment of farming during 2013, Mr. Woulfe identified the relief operation overseen by Dairygold that helped overcome the worst effects of the fodder crisis, increased commodity prices and the phasing out of milk quotas, as indicators of farming's current strength.

Following this address, Mr. Woulfe's wife, Ann was presented with a bouquet of flowers by Richard Quirke. David Rea provided the music for the rest of the evening.

The success of the dinner dance is due in no small way to the effort put in by the all female top table who have done Trojan work since their election - the North Cork IFA trio comprises of Mary Twomey-Casey (chairperson), Mary Murphy (secretary) and Denise O'Sullivan-Breen (treasurer).
