Nominees sought for Garda youth awards

The Garda youth awards are a means of recognising the valuable contribution young people make to community life.

The Cork north garda division which comprises the districts: Fermoy, Midleton, Mallow, Cobh and Glanmire, is currently seeking nominations for the Garda Youth Awards 2014.

The awards which recognise those, who by their efforts or initiatives have made their communities better places live in, are being generously sponsored by Janssen Pharmaceutical in Little Island - the court services in Mallow are also contributing to the awards.

Nominees must be between 14 and 19 years of age and reside with the Cork north division - community activities must also have taken place within the division.

Application forms are available from the aforementioned locations and should be completed and returned to Midleton Garda Station before noon on February 7, 2014.

This year's awards were formally launched at a reception in Vienna Woods Hotel, Cork last Thursday. Some of the keynote speakers were: Superintendent Pat McCarthy, Inspector Eddie Golden, Chief Superintendent Gerard Dillane and Ger O'Brien who represented Janssen Pharmaceutical.

Chief Superintendent Dillane said An Garda Siochana were delighted to be associated with the awards which were a means of recognising the very valuable contribution young people make to community life. He went on encourage individuals, clubs and voluntary groups to nominate a suitable candidate. He made a special point of thanking Janssen Pharmaceutical for coming on board as the main sponsors of the awards.
