Kilfinane farmer and actor Joe Mullins moved from amateur dramatics with Fermoy’s Palace Players to wowing international audiences in his first feature movie in 2013, but he doesn’t want to be typecast as a farmer, he tells Ellie O’Byrne.
“I often said I tried to give up farming to be an actor and ended up doing more farming as an actor than I ever did before,” Joe Mullins says with a chuckle.
The 51-year-old actor, who shot to prominence for his heart-rending portrayal of isolated farmer Jimmy Walsh in the IFTA award-winning Irish feature film Pilgrim Hill, only has himself to blame, in a way: he was so plausible in the role that, at times, people didn’t even know he was acting.
