Munster Club I.F.C. quarter-final replay
Ballyporeen 3-8 De La Salle 1-3
After a sluggish start it was Bally’s Danny Barrett that got the first point of the day after eleven minutes, but two minutes later in De La Salle’s first attack David Kennedy’s point effort landed short and Lee Hayes flicked to the Bally net. Ballyporeen recovered and a pinpoint pass from Conor Sweeney found Darragh Lyons out on the left wing. Lyons broke through the De La Salle defence and lifted the ball over the head of David Dennison into the top corner of the net. Conor added one from play, Ian Cantwell had De La Salle’s first point on the twenty first minute. Then Sweeney and Cantwell traded frees to leave Ballyporeen narrowly on top at half time Bally 1-3 De La Salle 1-2.
The second half saw things all square with a long range point from Lee Hayes. Then Bally piled on the pressure, Tommy Sweeney added a point for Bally in the forty first minute. Then John Martin found Conor Sweeney who turned his marker and thumped past Dennison in the goal. De La Salle were reduced to fourteen men when Ian Cantwell saw red. At this stage it was all Bally, points from Conor, John Martin, John O’Callaghan, then Danny Barrett goaled in the last minute, before Fionan O’Sullivan had the last score of the day with a well taken point way out in the right wing.
It may have taken almost two and half hours to separate these sides, but it was Ballyporeen that was the dominant side in this replay. Bally now move on to the semi-final stage where they take on Cork champions Clyda Rovers this Sunday 17 at 2pm in Clonmel sports field.
