Cllr Frank O’Flynn has called on Cork County Council to put a pedestrian crossing in place in Kildorrery on the Glanworth Road entrance, but has been told that the NRA have not approved it.

Cllr O’Flynn raised the issue through a motion at the recent Fermoy Electoral Area Committee meeting in Mitchelstown, so that it could be put in place in the interest of safety for road users.

Engineer Brendan O’Gorman said that the NRA did not approve a pedestrian crossing for this location in 2013, but that a traffic calming scheme is proposed for 2014.

“A traffic calming build-out scheme to reduce lane width at the Glanworth Road, Kildorrery, oposite the school and GAA field, is proposed under our 2014 Draft Low Cost Accident Schemes on NNR Roads,” he said.

He explained that by providing better pedestrian facilities, the area will be made safer for pedestrians, but that any work is subject to securing funding from the NRA.
