Clean-up works, which are currently being carried out at the Knockananig reservoir outside Fermoy, recently unearthed some large pipes which are historically significant.

While visiting the reservoir last week, local George O’Keefe spotted the pipes, which had been recovered and, at that point, were idling in the nearby car park.

Mr O’Keefe contacted local Councillor Deirdre O’Brien, raising his concerns about the vulnerability of the ancient pipes at that location, describing them as ‘invaluable’.

“These are stunning pieces of engineering and would make great museum pieces for Fermoy and might eventually be on display somewhere,” Mr O’Keefe noted.
