The new gym at Mitchelstown Leisure Centre opened for the first time on Monday of this week, which will bring a new dimension to what the facility can offer to people from across the community.

On Tuesday night, the Leisure Centre was a hive of activity with the new gym already in use, a Rebel Training class in the activities hall and Mitchelstown Badminton Club using all four courts in the sports hall.

"The equipment in the new gym has been a big hit with everyone," manager Kristine Meenaghan said.

She added that people are also drawn to the fact that there is a wide choice of membership options with offers for couples, groups, off-peak rates and 'pay as you go' options. As an added bonus, gym members can also avail of the some of the classes offered for no extra cost.

"Overall, we’re very happy with the first few weeks. Since the complex opened on November 3, the amount of usage has increased with each passing day and the most pleasing aspect is the very positive reaction from the public. We've been surprised too at some of the enquiries, such as children’s birthday parties, and business training programmes. Our policy is that if we can accommodate the activity, we’ll do so," Kristine told The Avondhu.
