The final hurdle has been cleared in Coláiste an Chraoibhín's plan to build a new €5.5m extension to the school.

The period the Fermoy school had to wait to allow for any objections to Cork County Council's planning permission passed last week, with no submissions received. The project can now proceed to tender, a process that could take up to a year. Construction is expected to take a further 14 to 18 months.

This week, local councillors Noel McCarthy and Tadhg O'Donovan welcomed the fact that there had been no third party objections to planning permission. "It's a reflection of the goodwill towards the project," they said in a joint statement. They called on Education Minister, Ruairi Quinn and Co. Cork VEC CEO, Ted Owens to do all they can to ensure the project progreses in a timely manner, to allow the new extension to open at the earliest possible date.
