Ireland’s National Environmental Awards were launched on Friday by Repak. Now in its 9th year, The Pakman Awards are recognised as one of the most prestigious accolades in the environmental sector for organisations and community groups who demonstrate their sustainability and environmental efforts.
This year will see the addition of a new category, the ESG Leader, which according to Séamus Clancy, CEO of Repak, will allow, for the first time “individual people within our 3,400 membership group to showcase their efforts”.
“The ESG category acknowledges and emphasises the importance of environmental sustainability, social responsibility and effective governance in waste management practices. By recognising these aspects, The Pakman Awards aims to highlight the broader impact of recycling and waste management beyond environmental considerations,” Mr Clancy said.
Other award categories include the Overall Pakman Award, which was won last year by Limerick Polymers Production, and Community Recycling Initiative Award which was won by Cork native, Relove Paint, for its efforts in helping Ireland to prevent surplus waste through innovative means and for increasing awareness of the importance of recycling amongst its local community. Other highly contested awards include Waste Prevention Award, Business Recycling Champion Award, and Environmental Education and Awareness Initiative.
Category entrants are invited to submit examples of their environmental efforts from the past twelve months, with details of all categories available on https://pakmanawards.repak.ie/. Winners will be announced at this year’s award ceremony, which will be held on 26th October at The Shelbourne Hotel, Dublin.
