As has been the case for the past number of years, Mitchelstown Lions Club arranged for a group of senior citizens to enjoy a week away during the summer in Trabolgan in East Cork and Nellie Fitzgerald was one of those who really enjoyed the week away.

"Great credit is due to those involved in the Lions Club. We don't appreciate fully the work they do for people during the summer and what they do at Christmas time also. This was a holiday not to be forgotten for all of us and it was all thanks to them."

During the week in Trabolgan, there were many social events and competitions held and Nellie walked away with her fair share of the prizes. She was crowned the winner of the Great-Granny competition for which she was presented with a perpetual trophy; got another one for the bonnet competition; a certificate for the walking challenge and she received a cheque for her singing of 'South of the Border'.

"There are lots of other competitions as well that I didn't get around to doing, but if God spares for next year, I'll be having a go at some of those too," and upbeat Nellie told The Avondhu.
