Back in the 1840s and early 1850s John and Hanora Murphy raised their family of six children. Around 1850 the family came to live and farm at Moulane, Rathcormac.
They later acquired a public house at Bride St in the village - now the Rathcormac Inn. Earlier this year four of the descendants of John and Hanora, John Arnold, John A Murphy, Liam Dineen and Maurice Kearney began the organising of a Murphy family reunion. Their work came to fruition last weekend when close on 200 Murphy clan members met in Rathcormac.
All present were connected to Dan Murphy, Moulane; Ellen Murphy/Gowen, Cappagh, Ballyhooly; Kate Murphy/Ring, Bride St; Mary Murphy/ Sweeney, Knockaunduff and Bridget Murphy/Twomey, Kilcor, Castlelyons. All branches of the family were well represented at the reunion.
There were great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, great great great grandchildren and great great great great grandchildren of John and Hanora Murphy present for the reunion. Many attended the 7.30pm Saturday night Mass where Fr Ml Leamy PP welcomed home all the Murphy diaspora and included all past generations in the Prayers of the Faithful.
