Mitchelstown Handball and Racquetball Club were recently the proud hosts of the Munster Racquetball Championships.

A great turnout on the day (Sunday, 14th December), saw the meeting of old friends from times past when the club was at its peak, and while these players are friends off the court they are formidable adversaries once they step inside that glass wall and in 2014, this was no different with the rekindling of old rivalries.

In the main event, after some close contests on the road to the final, Denis Power overcame Joe O'Brien to become Munster champion with Anthony O'Brien taking the bronze, whilst the plate was a family affair with Tiernan O'Brien taking the gold from one of his fiercest rivals and training partners - his father, Mike O'Brien!

When these two step foot on the court, the competition between them reaches fever pitch, but it is great to see that it is not all competition between them and the smiles exchanged between rallies are telling.

Congratulations to all who participated and thanks to all who turned up to support their club players. The supporters make the day as much as the matches. Here's hoping you all enjoyed the day and that this is the first on many major events held in Mitchelstown.
