The board and staff of Ballyhoura Development Ltd were deeply saddened to hear of the recent passing of Seámus Hyde, RIP. Seámus played a key role in the development and ongoing operations of Ballyhoura Development from the 1990s up until 2011.
Seámus was a nominee from Teagasc to the board of Ballyhoura Development and was elected to the role of chairperson of Ballyhoura Development in the mid-1990s to 1999 and remained on the board until 2001.
During his time as board member and chairperson, Seámus exhibited excellent skills in developing a strong board and a strong organisation. Seamus had a keen desire for knowledge and learning and his vision facilitated the organisation in developing innovative responses to meet the needs of the area and to tap into opportunities. When Seámus completed his term on the board, he joined the Projects Assessment Committee (PAC) where his skills at assessing projects, in terms of their economic and social value, were evident and where he provided excellent guidance to staff.
Seámus held a strong interest in and knowledge of so many areas, including economic development, agriculture, culture and heritage. Seámus remained on the PAC until 2011. At all times, he was a pleasure to work with and his ability to tell a story and to make people laugh together, with his skills at reaching a unified approach, were valued.
Mr John Walsh, chairperson of Ballyhoura Development conveyed the appreciation of the company to Seámus’s family for the contribution he made to the company and to the wider area and he stressed that Seámus has left a strong legacy in the Ballyhoura area. John conveyed the organisation’s sympathies to his family, his wife Nuala, his children Aine, Seán, Orla and Maire and to his many friends and former colleagues. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.
