Walking is a great way to get active, take in some fresh air, meet new people and get to know your local area a bit better and next week, the Mitchelstown Walking Group are inviting people to join them on a special walk for the Irish Heart Foundation.

The walk will take place on Tuesday next, October 1, at 7pm in the Square and donations for the Irish Heart Foundation would be greatly appreciated. The walk will take anywhere between half an hour and an hour and people can walk at their own pace.

The Mitchelstown Walking Group meet every Tuesday in the Square at 7pm and the walks are led by a trained walker, and include warm up and cool down routines.

There is no join up fee and people are advised to wear comfortable shoes and dress appropriately for the weather and all are welcome.

Health Promotion Officer for the HSE, Caroline Kelleher said that walking is a great way to improve overall fitness.

“Once dismissed as being 'too easy', walking has now gained new respect as a means of improving physical fitness. Walking is a great way to get active and walking groups are a safe, supportive, social outlet to get started," she said.
