The Mitchelstown Saint Patrick’s Day parade is set to be cancelled due to fears over the spread of coronavirus.

Parade organiser Michael White told The Avondhu that the committee will discuss the situation, but he said the parade will be cancelled.

‘Very serious now’

“I’m cancelling it for the moment, I have to meet committee members first to finalise it but we have no other choice.

“We have no other choice at this stage, the health of people is more important. It is very serious now.”

The Mitchelstown parade move comes after Youghal cancelled and Midleton postponed their St Patrick’s Day events, due to fears over the ongoing spread of coronavirus (COVID-19).
