Patrick (Pakie) Roche from Mitchelstown received one of the highest honours in Scouting, when he was given The Order of Cu Chulainn by Scouting Ireland at the recent National Council.

Presented in front of over 800 delegates, this is the highest adult meritorious award and it is presented very rarely, to recognise exceptional and dedicated service to Scouting over many years.

In an unusual coincidence, this honour was also bestowed on former Mitchelstown Scouts, Willie Ahern and Martin Flahive previously.

Patrick's service and commitment to Scouting is extraordinary and many who know him will see this is a well deserved award. He joined the 29th Mitchelstown Cub pack in 1976, became a leader in 1984 and served as a regional chairman and secretary in the 1990s.

He was also the last National Commissioner for Water Activities in 1994, he was Regional/County Commissioner in North Cork from 2002-2007, he served as Deputy Sub-Camp Chief at Scouting Ireland's Centenary Jamboree in Punchestown in 2008 and he also sat on the National Management Committee and as director of Scouting Ireland.

Outside his Scouting activities, Patrick is manager at Plassey Credit Union in Limerick and he still enjoys kayaking, cycling and running.

All those associated with Scouting in Mitchelstown and North Cork are very proud of what Patrick Roche has achieved and are delighted that his service has been honoured in such a way.
