Mitchelstown golfer secures notable success at Monkstown

John Doyle, a golfer with Fota Island Golf Club and a member of Mitchelstown Golf Club, was earlier this summer crowned the Irish Boys’ Amateur Close Golf champion at a competition at Monkstown Gold Club in July. 

Returning to Fota Island Golf Club with the shield recently, John is set to compete this week for the AIG All-Ireland Inter-Club finals for the Barton Shield at Dun Laoghaire Golf Club, which runs from September 7-10.

At the age of just 16, John has climbed through the golfing ranks, competing at some of the highest levels and this year on his first attempt, claimed the Irish Boys’ Amateur Close Golf Championship.
