Mitchelstown’s James Skinner and his wife Pat have just celebrated 70 years of happy marriage. The secret to their marital success? – never let the sun set on an argument.
Jimmy and Pat met when he worked for a time in Clonakilty and eventually married in a joint ceremony in Cork. The celebrations were held in the Metropole Hotel and they returned to live in Mitchelstown.
Jim explained that he had been working in Houlihan’s on Lower Cork Street (now Supermac’s). “They couldn’t open a bakery in Mitchelstown so they bought a place in Clonakilty. There was a slight bit of trouble with the workers, and they send me down to make it work,” Jim said.
