The charity boxing night run by Mitchelstown Rugby Club in association with White Collar Boxing raised €9,700 for charities and clubs in the local area.

The 'St Patrick's Eve Punch Up' was supported by hundreds of people across the community and on Friday last, the various different charities and clubs who benefitted from the night received their cheques.

The largest benefactor was Mitchelstown COPE Foundation, with Kildorrery GAA club and Kilbehenny Celtic also being awarded very favourable amounts, which will make an immense difference to the running of their organisations and clubs.

The organisers said that the event showed how well a community can work together for the common goal of raising money for charity. They would like to thank the patrons who attended the event, the sponsors and all those who gave money or time to make the event such a success.

Mitchelstown Rugby Club are still putting a final figure together to see how much closer they are to having a permanent club base. Thanks to the fundraiser, they will have a figure in the coming month and they hope to put this event on annually now, such was its success, so pencil it into the diary for 2014.
