Just before Christmas, the hard work and dedication from Mitchelstown Community Council paid off, as they were awarded second place in the Best Large Town category for the 2013 Pride in Our Community awards.

The award was achieved for their work on the Ballinwillin wall, which was lying derelict for more than 20 years - the works were carried out as a joint project between the community council and AROMA.

Chairman of the Projects' Committee for Mitchelstown Community Council, Sean Joy, thanked AROMA for coming on board and he said that the project just showed how much can be achieved when people work together. They are looking forward to working with them on other projects in the future.

They would also like to thank Bob and Andrew Dineen for taking photographs of the project, the residents of Ballinwillin, Ballyhoura Development and Barry Wilson for their cooperation and help in making this a successful project.

HELP ALWAYS APPRECIATED

Sean Finn added that if anyone in the community wishes to help the community council to advance the work that they do in the town, they can bring tools or donations to the community council members and any donations, no matter how big or small, will be of great help to them.

In other community council news, Ger Brennan is the new representative for the Mulberry area and the council wish to congratulate Canon Michael Fitzgerald on being appointed canon before Christmas.

Now that the TUS workers have a base from which to work on the Clonmel Road, there is ongoing litter picking, sweeping up of leaves, flower beds maintenance and general improvements ongoing in the town.

To keep up to date with the work that the TUS workers do, look at Mitchelstown Community Council's Facebook page and if anyone would like some work done, they can send a message to the page or comment. If this is sanctioned, the work can then be carried out.

This year, one of the projects the TUS workers will be undertaking includes the cleaning of the footpath on the Kildorrery Road and they are looking forward to a number of projects to help improve Mitchelstown's appearance during the year.
