Kicking off an extensive programme of St Patrick’s celebrations around the world, Seán Sherlock TD, Minister of State at the Department of Foreign Affairs, hosted a reception sponsored by Tourism Ireland in the House of Lords in London.
The event, celebrating British-Irish relations, was attended by members of the House of Lords and House of Commons, as well as leaders of the Irish community living in London, influential travel trade, business tourism and media contacts.
The event in the House of Lords marks the start of a packed week of promotional activity for Tourism Ireland around the world. Tourism Ireland’s St Patrick’s 2015 programme will span Great Britain, Mainland Europe, North America, Australia and New Zealand, as well as emerging tourism markets like China, India, Brazil and South Africa.
Last month, Tourism Ireland announced details of some of the famous attractions and sites around the world which will join its Global Greening initiative this year to mark St Patrick’s Day. From Rome to Rio and from London to Las Vegas, a host of major landmarks and iconic sites around the world will be illuminated in green on 17 March – including the Colosseum, the Sacré-Cœur Basilica in Paris, the Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro and even the Equator Sign and Line in Uganda!
