Minister for Research and Innovation Sean Sherlock met with the former White House Chief of Staff, now Chicago Mayor, Rahm Emanuel, during the St Patrick's Day trade mission.
"St Patrick's Day provides the Irish Government with a unique opportunity to boost trade, inward investment and tourism with a view to stronger economic growth and creating more jobs at home," the Minister said.
During his visit to Chicago and Kansas he was involved in more than two dozen meetings and events related to the activities of the IDA and Enterprise Ireland. He also met members of the Irish-American community and US political representatives and engaged in a number of media events including an interview with CBS News.
"I'm determined to deliver a strong message, not just for Ireland but for Cork, which is a significant hub with investment potential," Minister Sherlock said.
"Cork as a region is continuously evolving to become a global player in many different sectors. The welcome we received in every quarter shows that Ireland's reputation is restored and that we will contribute heavily to further foreign direct investment in the country and this region," he concluded.
