Fermoy resident and Lord of the Dance star Michael Flatley described walking on the banks of the River Blackwater as ‘inspiring’ as he was made an honorary Corkman last week.
Mr Flatley was bestowed the honour at the annual Cork People of the Years Awards, which saw abuse victim Louise O’Keeffe named Cork Person of the Year. At the ceremony, the Castlehyde resident spoke of his deep affection for Fermoy and Cork.
“I love being here, I think I have been blessed in my life to live in many different parts of the world, Beverly Hills, Malibu, Chicago, New York, the French Riviera. But for me nothing could ever be so inspiring as walking on the banks of the Blackwater River in Cork. That’s where I tend to draw my energy and inspiration.”
He accepted the accolade from last year’s recipient, actor Jermemy Irons, who resides in Kilcoe Castle outside Skibbereen.
