Michael O’Connor, a retired vet, and his ten year old granddaughter, Sarah, will do a sponsored climb of Croagh Patrick on behalf of Rathcormac Game and Wildlife Club to help raise funds for the Help Sinead Shine In Spite Of Lyme fund.

Micheal, a founding member of Rathcormac Game and Wildlife Club, and Sarah will don their climbing boots and participate in this year’s Reek Sunday on 26th July next. On Reek Sunday, the last Sunday in July, over 25,000 pilgrims visit the Reek. The tradition of pilgrimage to this holy mountain which is 2,507 feet high stretches back over 5,000 years from the Stone Age to the present day without interruption.

Michael, who is approaching his 70th birthday, has made this pilgrimage 40 times while this will be Sarah’s second pilgrimage to Croagh Patrick. Michael offered to do this year’s climb as a sponsored event when he heard of local teenager Sinead Kearney’s battle with Lyme disease.

His fellow club members from Rathcormac Game and Wildlife Club have rallied in to support Michael and Sarah by raising sponsorship monies for this event. All members of the club have sponsorship cards and will over the next few weeks be seeking sponsorship from family, friends and acquaintances.

Rathcormac Game and Wildlife Club would like to thank Michael and Sarah for undertaking this pilgrimage on their behalf and urge anyone who is in a position to sponsor Michael and Sarah to do so generously as this is such a worthy cause.

Michael can be contacted on 087-2603783. The club would also like to wish Sinead and her family a safe and successful journey as they travel to the States.
