MEP Sean Kelly is calling on businesses to be extremely vigilant in light of another scam campaign by so-called 'business directories'.

These scam artists attempt to draw unsuspecting businesses into paying out thousands of Euro of 'fees' for publishing their notices in bogus directories. MEP Kelly was contacted by a vigilant businessman in Cork city who has flagged a new campaign with him.

"I have dealt with this matter before and successfully represented a concerned constituent who was being threatened with legal action by these bogus companies. These fraudsters are constantly on the move so addresses may vary from Spain to Germany.

"I urge all business owners, sole traders, tradespeople and other small enterprises not to engage with these scam artists, and if they are having any problems, to contact me via my website as I have a track record in helping companies in distress," he added.

"This issue is being dealt with at EU level and due to greater enforcement we are seeing fewer cases of business directory scams, however, they are still active," he concluded.
