The northern part of the Cork East constituency finally has a sitting TD, with Fine Gael councillor, Noel McCarthy, having been elected to Dáil Eireann on Sunday afternoon.
Securing 11.2% of first preference votes, Cllr McCarthy was elected on the 12th count, taking one of the four seats in the Cork East constituency.
Speaking with The Avondhu, Cllr McCarthy said he is ‘so proud’ to have achieved the result and stated that it wouldn’t have happened without the support and the team he worked with throughout his campaign.
“I am absolutely so proud that I am the first Fermoy representative in the town in 33 years. That gives me so much pride and I wouldn’t have done it without such a great team supporting me. They really made the difference,” he said.
