It is expected that Independent Councillor Noel McCarthy will join Fine Gael in the coming days, with an announcement imminent that he is to be a candidate for the party ahead of the 2016 general election, reports Eoin Scanlon.

The Fermoy-based councillor resigned from the Labour party last month, citing growing frustrations with the party and talks are ongoing with Fine Gael about joining their ranks.
